Dirty Ghosts are the progeny of Allyson Baker, a Canadian who moved to the Bay Area and learned it wasn’t all hippies being lectured by Jello Biafra while an earthquake happened. It was also a place to refine and soak up music in a messy apartment. Singer/guitarist and chef songwriter Baker took an obsession with seemingly contradictory sounds (1980’s new wave and post-punk with a large dose of 1960s funk) to create catchy, intricately crafted music that skips across genres while remaining very much rock and roll.
Their debut features Baker on guitar, bass from Saviours’ Carson Binks, live drumming from Michael Urbano and drum programming courtesy of acclaimed musician Aesop Rock. Making splashes at SXSW, Noisepop, a tour with Datarock and MusicFest NW in 2011, the band is set to release their debut album in 2012 with Last Gang records.
