Ty Segall’s latest video accompanies “The Man Man” from Sleeper, his psychedelic, folk-leaning LP out this year via Drag City.
Thee Oh Sees kicked into a marathon set of hypnotic bass (played on a guitar, of course, by the tireless Petey Dammit), ghostly falsettos, pummeling drums, and spooky keyboard dispatches.
His new video for the album track “The Man Man” would’ve been perfect for Halloween, but it’s still pretty badass a few days later. In the LEAF-directed video, a quartet of terrifying monster-masked gunmen stalk Segall through a dark street.

Maybe it was the death of Lou Reed, who John Dwyer dedicated their set to, and the weird energy that brought, and the location certainly was condusive, but Thee Oh Sees were absolutely on fire Sunday night.
And Bay Area psych weirdo White Fence has turned in a jangly, flowery cover of “Today’s Lesson,” a 1991 banger from the crustcore band Filth. The White Fence version does not sound anything like the Filth one, and you can hear it below.
For now, Mac’s plan is working. Being a successful pop musician is only partly about music; it is also about developing a marketable personality and pushing that personality to the limit.

Ty Segall is playing a one-off show on December 2nd at London’s Scala, performing his new album Sleeper that was released back in August via Drag City.
Prolific, garage-favouring jam band Thee Oh Sees are compiling yet another batch of their non-album tracks for a third Singles Collection. This latest edition arrives November 26 via band leader John Dwyer’s Castle Face Records imprint.
Jonathan Richman is Mac Demarco’s role model as “it seems like he’s just had a very enjoyable time his whole life”. Judging by his Scala show, Mac doesn’t seem to be struggling to replicate this lifestyle.
It’s probably too early to declare DeMarco one of a kind, but there’s more to him than the joking around.
When you say it’s “‘too loud,” that’s really code for, “This music sucks!” Dinosaur Jr. can never be too loud, for example. And wait till you hear Fuzz!
