Akimbo

Akimbo has barreled their way through the United States and Europe over the last seven years with all the fervor of a terrible demon army bent on conquest. Forging a path of righteousness with a thunderous sound and a menacing presence in today's underground rock scene, Jon Weisnewski (Bass/Vocals) and Nat Damm (Drums) have solidified a unique and devastating sonic battle axe left embedded in the skulls of their enemies. 2006 saw the last of a long list of personnel changes with the addition of Aaron Walters (Guitar). The formidable three-piece is now tighter and stronger than ever, as if under the influence of a mad alchemist's serum, concocted to lend inhuman might to their sound and stage performance. Hand picked for the Alternative Tentacles roster by Jello Biafra, they encompass everything that has made rock, punk, and metal a dangerous sound for the last 50 years..

Hungrily devouring the corpses of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and The Who; dissecting the still quivering bodies of Black Flag and The Jesus Lizard; infusing the essence of the still beating heart of The Melvins, Akimbo has so far released four pounding albums on Alternative Tentacles, Seventh Rule Recordings, Dopamine Records, and Rockandroleplay Records. With a relentless touring schedule and an ever growing nation wide fan base, the Akimbo juggernaut is bent on leaving audiences a stunned, deaf, shuddering mass. Be warned: The pin on the party grenade has been pulled.

Akimbo sxsw tour blog... tons of beer, hair and rock.

Tour started in Medford, Oregon at Johnny B's. The show was set up by our good friends Stacy and Kimbo Schrag and would be the first of many with Green Milk From the Planet Orange from Tokyo. Green Milk is a three piece that plays psychedelic jam rock, seated on stage in metal folding chairs, and is one of those bands that is so proficient they kind of make me feel like our band is a joke that gets by on volume. They have the nicknames "K" (guitar/vocals), "T" (bass) and "Ace" (drums) which they stick to outside of band life and only makes them more intriguing and awesome. Technically it was our second show with them if you count our kick off show in Seattle at the Comet Tavern, but I don't count Seattle shows as being on tour.

Akimbo photo blog from mini northwest tour

Akimbo blog coming soon... but in the meantime here are a bunch of photos I (Michelle) took while on the little mini tour of the northwest with dmbq... once again, another week of cascading hair and beer... the sweet sounds of nirvana and sparks narrating the journey as we barreled up the coast back to akimbo's homeland, seattle.
